Category Buyer Logistic / G&A (Chicago)

Job Description:

  • Responsible for purchasing the logistic services (land transport, Warehousing, Sea Freight) and G&A categories (Marketing, IT, Telecom, HR, Consulting, MRO)
  • Analyze historical spend data and define category strategy
  • Partner with internal stakeholders to identify and understand current and future business needs
  • Prepare and run tenders for the categories in scope, dealing with all relevant stakeholders (service providers, internal customers and cross functional teams)
  • Collect data, complete market research, define terms and conditions, negotiate proposals and finalize contracts
  • Manage service providers, follow market trends, and legislative changes
  • Provide input and expertise in all relevant improvement and development projects (footprint analysis, make or buy, cost efficiency, etc.)
  • Implement purchasing policy and best practices
  • Monitor and report results in spend reduction

Desired Skills:

  • Advanced skills in purchasing: negotiation, supplier management and procurement
  • Analytical capabilities in order to manage cost analysis, budgets and reports
  • Solid market knowledge of different areas within Logistic (land, air and sea, warehousing), and MRO
  • Operational knowledge of different areas within Logistic / Supply Chain & Procurement: transportation by land, air and sea, warehousing, distribution networks and complex logistics systems, and Indirect Spend management : MRO category for manufacturing (National level), and professional services, IT, HR, and Marketing (Corporate level)
  • English and Spanish language written and spoken fluently
  • Experience in Project Management
  • Experience with e-Procurement platforms
  • Ability to work in complex and international environments
  • Operational autonomy but able to play in a team
  • Excellent interpersonal communication (stakeholder management)
  • Professionalism, discretion and reliability

Experience:

  • Significant experience (minimum 3 years) in transportation sourcing, supply chain or in a lead logistic provider, procurement experience in Indirect Spend area (Services, IT, HR, and MRO)
  • Experience working independently, demonstrated experience in setting a procurement strategy for different levels of an organization
  • Experience leading high value contract negotiations

Required Education:

  • University Degree/ Master’s Degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain or similar
  • Purchasing Certificate

Knowledge or Specific Business Understanding:

  • Thorough Understanding of purchasing methodology (strategic sourcing, category profile, best practice sourcing)
  • SAP, Excel, Powerpoint
  • Negotiation, presentation, analytical, and communication skills a must
