About the EIB

The EIB is the European Union's bank.
We are the only bank owned by and representing the interests of the European Union Member States. We work closely with other EU institutions to implement EU policy.

Our expertise is based on more than 50 years' experience and the specialised knowledge of over 2800 staff.

A major player

As the largest multilateral borrower and lender by volume, we provide finance and expertise for sound and sustainable investment projects which contribute to furthering EU policy objectives.

More than 90% of our activity is focused on Europe but we also support the EU's external and development policies.

Our extensive lending, blending and advisory capacities are at the service of all EU citizens, as well as citizens in many non-EU countries.

Our priorities

We support projects that make a significant contribution to growth and employment in Europe. As part of our counter-cyclical approach, our activities focus on four priority areas: innovation and skills, access to finance for smaller businesses, environment and climate, infrastructure.

We raise the bulk of our lending resources on the international capital markets through bond issues. Our excellent rating allows us to borrow at advantageous rates. We thus are able to offer good terms to our clients.

What makes the EIB different?

All the projects we finance must not only be bankable but also comply with strict economic, technical, environmental and social standards. Our corps of 300 engineers and economists screens every project, before, during and after we lend. We work hard to be accountable to EU citizens.

IT management at the EIB

The IT Department brings state-of-the-art technology into our business and professional life, and it is essential to guarantee business continuity while improving our way of working.

Our IT professionals support and manage the core financial and lending applications of the EIB Group. Our applications cover a wide range of business areas like borrowing, treasury, collateral management and lending, and we provide front and back-office operations for bond issuance and investment and liquidity management. We also develop in-house solutions to improve for example our risk management and monitoring functions.

We also work to provide the best support for our colleagues, with immediate and updated communications for everything that relates to IT services, as well as with an Infotech point where everyone can find support for any kind of IT problem, from laptops to their professional smartphones. We are also constantly working of improving and simplifying the team and individual collaboration by developing more mobile and remote applications.

Dealing with highly sensitive data, our mission to be a trustful business partner is to provide all necessary measures to prevent the loss of data, confidentiality and its integrity with systems, procedures and support for all staff. Innovation is captured by a continuing digitalization of our size-increasing datasets, providing agile and mobile business solutions for our staff, eager to react to new market solutions.
